In an effort to increase the capacity for trained individuals to work in lead hazard reduction projects, the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), in collaboration with the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA), is offering training as part of DHCD's Lead Hazard Reduction Program (LHR).Trainings will cover many lead disciplines, including Lead Supervisor, Lead Abatement Inspector, and Lead Risk Assessor.

To receive certification, attendees must attend the entire class and pass an examination upon completion. Most courses also require passing an additional third party exam.

Licensure for Lead Abatement Worker and Renovation, Repair and Paint is obtained through the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation. Attendees must be licensed in order to participate in the LHR program.

All trainings will be conducted in-person at the CCWA Chester Center, located at 13101 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Chester, VA 23831. The training will be conducted in person and not virtually, due to the "hands-on" components of the classes. 

Seats are limited, and DHCD will be covering tuition costs provided that the participants are present for the full day, every day. If participants are not present from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., we will bill for the tuition cost.

By providing this training, we intend to build Virginia's capacity to effectively, compliantly and promptly address lead-based paint in houses occupied by low- to moderate-income households.
