Homelessness Prevention Services
The Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) provides temporary rental and mortgage assistance to low-income households at imminent risk of homelessness due to a crisis situation, and security deposit and temporary rental assistance to homeless families and individuals.
Eligibility for family or individual assistance is determined through a pre-screening and application process by a local HIP administrator.
The program is administered by eligible nonprofit organizations and governmental entities. These include, but are not limited to: cities, counties, towns, planning district commissions, local departments of social services, local departments of health, public housing authorities, area agencies on aging, community action groups, shelter providers, and nonprofit housing organizations.
For more information, contact DHCD at: HSNH@dhcd.virginia.gov or (804) 371-7100.
